Dr Sze Ling Wong, MD FRCSC FRACS

Dr Sze Ling Wong is a leading Endocrine Surgeon in Perth, Australia who upholds excellence in personalised patient-centered care.

She is a highly trained and experienced General Surgeon specialising in Endocrine Surgery with specific interests in all aspects of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal procedures. Having completed her training in General Surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2012, Dr Wong then spent 2 years of post-fellowship training in Endocrine Surgery at The Alfred in Melbourne and Royal Perth Hospital in Perth.

Dr Wong has performed thousands of successful surgeries. She is sought after for minimally invasive procedures to treat cancers, including ‘Scarless’ Transoral Thyroidectomy. As a pioneer of Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach surgery in Australia, she has set the benchmark in scarless neck thyroid surgery.

To achieve the best possible clinical outcomes for her patients, Dr Wong therefore devotes time to training, mentoring, leadership, and community roles.  She was awarded the 2019 General Surgeons Australia Excellence in Surgical Teaching Award.

  • Audits clinical performance indicators with WA Endocrine Surgeons association through annual peer reviews to uphold best practice standards in recurrent injury, hematoma, hypoparathyroidism, and infection rates (Current). 
  • Reduces patients’ wait time from 3 months to less than 2 weeks at the new Rapid Access Thyroid Clinic at Fiona Stanley Hospital (Current).
  • Led audit team to ensure safe and high quality surgical patient care as Chair of General Surgery Audit at SJOG Midland Hospital (2017 – 2021).
  • Served on Medical Advisory Committee to uphold delivery of healthcare of the highest quality at Royal Perth Hospital by conducting formal reviews of clinical management and outcomes (2016 to 2021).
  • Won the General Surgeons Australia Excellence (WA) in Surgical Teaching Award based on trainee nominations (2019). 
  • Introduced ‘Scarless’ Transoral Thyroid Surgery to Australia as member of surgical team at Royal Perth Hospital (9NEWS coverage in 2018). 
  • Treated patients with life-threatening goitre: an example of an Ethiopian lady with severely large goitre (7NEWS FIRST coverage in 2017).
  • Provided voluntary surgical services in Kenya (2019) and Nepal (2016) .
